While relatively new to photography as a hobby, I, in my infinite wisdom, decided that it would be a good idea to get into Film photography. About a month ago, I got a really good deal on a working Canon AE-1 Program from eBay, plus a Tamron zoom lens. Having only ever shot on digital before this was sure to be a big learning curve. Not to mention that I'd only ever taken pictures of action figures before this!

The first roll of film I shot on my new setup was Ilford HP5, which I had heard really good things about in the community. I decided to go for a walk around my local area and explore a little. These are some of the photos from the first roll!

This first roll varied a lot in quality, mainly because I was A) treating film like digital, and B) using the sunny 16 rule and pretty much guessing my exposure. By my second roll, Fuji Superia 400, I had learned to use the light meter that came with the camera. The images looked a lot better after this, though I still have a lot to learn about working with analogue formats.

The hit rate on this roll was much higher, plus I think the light made a big difference, as it was a significantly nicer day. I had decided to go into Sheffield, as it would hopefully give me more chances to photograph people on the street rather than the quiet village I live in.

2 rolls in, and I have really enjoyed shooting with this camera, and have already ordered some FD prime lenses to use with it. Perhaps I'll even invest in a Sony camera so I can make use of the vintage glass, as I hear they adapt really well to mirrorless systems. I definitely found this camera more enjoyable and intuitive to use compared to my newer Canon 1300D, so I will definitely be picking it up more often.
